Warm up:

  • Arrange and ask - Are more ducks on pond or grass? Fewer ducks on grass or on pond etc
  • Various numbers in and out of pond - Count how many in/out/ altogether

Thinking:

  • Predict, if (n) ducks leave pond how many will be left on pond? Operate and check answers.
  • Tell me how many ducks to take out of the pond to have (n) ducks left on the pond
  • Arrange ducks - Ask the difference between the number of ducks on the grass and the number on the pond

Puzzle:

  • Can you work out how many different ways there can be more ducks on the pond than on the grass?
