Teaching ideas

Warm up:

  • Explore number of corners on each shape
  • Sort shapes into those with 5 corners or more and those with fewer than 5 corners.

Thinking:

  • Vary the number of corners on the label. Which shapes belong in the circle?
  • Add "and 5 sides" to the label. Which shapes belong in the circle?
  • Count the number of sides and corners on each shape. What do you notice?

Puzzle:

  • If the label reads "has two right angles" which shapes belong in the circle?
